Oh the Darbaby. What a sad little girl. A few weeks back Darla had a few x-rays. They looked at the left leg to see how her bone was healing up from the surgery, since she is still limping a bit. And they looked at the right leg to see if there were any signs of remaining Vally Fever.
The great news is that the Valley Fever is gone! This doesn't mean she is in the clear however. She will remain on the antifungals for the rest of her life. There is too great a risk that if she stops the meds that the Vally Fever could come back and with a vengeance. But the vet did lower the dose and her liver seems to be tolerating the meds just fine.
The surgeon took a look at the x-rays as well and found that the surgery has worked and that the bone has healed well. She did see some swelling around the pins and feels that this is due to some irritation. She thinks that this is why Darla is still limping. What does this mean? Another surgery for Darla. (deep breathe) I guess this surgery is much less invasive. Just a tiny incision (2 stitches max) to remove the pins. It can be done over a lunch hour and no down time. Of course Darla may have to wear the cone while the incision heals up.
So all in all this is good news. Darla is almost a perfect pup. Now if we could just get that attitude under control!
